The Choir

At present there are some 25 members of the St Michael’s Parish Church Choir, including 9 juniors and the Organ Scholar. It is a fully robed choir and is strong on maintaining good, traditional chorister practice. It is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and follows the Voice for Life Training Scheme as laid down by that organisation.

Four of the Juniors hold the RSCM Silver Award and one was awarded a Scholarship at last year’s RSCM Magdalen College Course, allowing her to attend the summer course at Bath Abbey. One of the Seniors holds the Gold Award and there are two other Seniors who hold the Silver and the Bronze – what used to be called Senior and Junior Bishop’s.  Our Organ Scholar has recently been appointed Organ Scholar of Pembroke College, Cambridge for 2010.

The Choir sing the full range of services including Full Choral Matins, Full Choral Evensong, Sung Eucharist and the more informal Third Sunday. Special services, Advent Carols, Nine Lessons and Carols etc feature strongly in the annual programme and reference to these can be found elsewhere on the website.

Some of the Choir belong to the RSCM Voices and have gained considerable experience singing at various cathedrals around the country. This invaluable experience is then brought back to enhance the singing and worship in the Church.

How to Join:

Membership of the Choir is by brief audition and, although thriving, we always warmly welcome new members, particularly Basses.
